Providing care for our residents
Most of our residents are mentally challenged, with a range of illnesses and degrees of disability. These vary from mild depression to schizophrenia and mild to severe learning disorders. Several have physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and speech and hearing impairments. Many of our residents have multiple disabilities and complex medical needs which require specialist medical attention.
Full time care
Financial independence
We have made great progress towards financial independence and self-reliance through a series of fund-raising activities and formalising our donor base.
Committed team
Embeded in the local community
We build connections to the local community, including hosting events for visitors and within the region to spread awareness of Akshaya Kshetram.
Growth
Operational improvements
Streamlining of the day-to-day operations and creating sustainable processes to support the increasing need in the community.
Our appeal
We have always believed that it is vital to provide an environment which is not only safe but conducive to the health and well-being of our staff and residents. Both the Ashrams, therefore, have plenty of open space and many trees and shrubs which make for a green and peaceful atmosphere enabling residents to feel secure and happy despite their physical and mental conditions.
Akshaya Kshetram is driven by a highly committed team and maintains links with the Tirupathi Tirumala Devasthanam (TTD) Temple Trust, local panchayats, schools and universities. By becoming an integral part of the local community, we have also been able to raise greater awareness of mental health across wider society. Every year, we invite members of the community and our supporters to our celebrations of events such as New Year’s Day, Children’s Day, Founders’ Day and Gandhi’s Jayanthi to meet the staff and residents and tour the Ashrams.
Many of our supporters locally and internally sponsor meals as part of their own days of celebration such as birthdays and weddings to share their good fortune with the residents of AK. Learn more about sponsoring meals (annadanam).
